Media and New Media Officer at Oxfam Scotland
2012 - Present

Responsible for media and communications work for Oxfam's UK Poverty Programme in Scotland. Also help partner organisations in communities across Scotland get more out of their contact with the media. Create and deliver media strategies and media training courses.

Senior Broadcast Journalist Producer at BBC
2007 - 2012

Output producer for An Là, the half-hour evening news programme on BBC ALBA.
Worked as part of a small team during the conception and development of the programme.
Managed a team of journalists based in Glasgow and at the Scottish Parliament.
In 2010 and 2011 produced BBC ALBA's election output.
Reporter on television and radio. Trained video journalist.
Carried out foreign filming trips as a director with Eòrpa.

Chief Executive and Publisher at Southside Media
2005 - 2007

Launched Southside Media, a not-for-profit social enterprise and one of the first Community Interest Companies in Scotland. Published two monthly community newspapers called G41 and G42 and two online community news networks called g41.org.uk and g42.org.uk.

As well as work on Southside Media, wrote news articles for the Sunday Herald, was a production journalist on The Herald website, was the Stringers Producer for the BBC's network coverage of the 2007 Elections and was a regular contributor to various programmes on BBC Radio nan Gàidheal. Also did some production shifts on Good Morning Scotland.

2004 - 2005

Scottish reporter for The Politics Show, originating stories, writing and delivering scripts, interviewing contributors and giving editorial guidance to colleagues. On one day a week worked as a political reporter covering the Scottish Parliament for various BBC Scotland television and radio outlets.

2002 - 2004

Moved to BBC Scotland's Scottish Parliamentary Unit in the run-up to the launch of The Politics Show. Originated, produced and directed packages. Developed reputation for finding original stories and presenting them in an interesting and engaging way. Gained extensive experience producing live television on The Politics Show Scotland, Holyrood Live and Scottish Questions Live from Westminster. During Parliamentary recesses worked for other BBC Scotland news outlets, including Good Morning Scotland, Newsdrive and Reporting Scotland.

2000 - 2002

First a Researcher and then a Researcher/Director with Eòrpa. Worked in several European countries including Norway, Holland, Denmark and Kosovo. A highlight was originating and researching a programme which proved for the first time that Depleted Uranium munitions used by Nato during the Balkan conflicts had contaminated local people.
